You are right, of course, Walt. Perhaps I was just automatically assuming
that Bourbon and Rye are just that (ie Bourbon, rather than whiskey). And
let's leave it at that, on the further understanding that Japan makes fine
cameras, without having to talk about Suntory - something must have got Lost
in Translation.

I've labored/laboured for years under the impression that "whiskey" is the
proper spelling unless you're referring to Scots/Scotch whisky.
Encyclopedia.com seems to agree:

from a fermented mash of grains, usually rye, barley, oats, wheat, or corn.
Inferior whiskeys are made from potatoes, beets, and other roots. The
standard whiskeys of the world are Scotch (commonly spelled whisky), Irish,
