I have been led to believe the increased battery "drain" of the OM-3
& 4 is due to an ever-present drain while sitting on the shelf. It's present
in all the OM-3 & 4's but was reduced considerably in the T/Ti versions.

As far as I know the om4 series consume most power when the shutter is
open and the camera is doing its otf metering. As far as I know the only
power consumption on the om3 is the meter and thats switched off when the
shutter is open because the camera can't control the shutter other than
through the mechanical system which is why all the shutter speeds should
work even with no batteries. Thats why its metering system is not OTF and
if you set the ASA dial wrong you don't get correct exposure.
