I really love the G-2. the lenses are superb. I find it works
terrifically well in both auto focus and manual modes. I have had it
about 3 years. For a film camera it is superb the G-2 is a huge
improvement over the G-1. the 90mm lens is a wonderful portrait lens.
I bought a Nikon Coolpix a few years ago to get my feet wet in digital
and also bought a 35mm film scanner and an Epson 1270. I just found
that I liked the idea of digital so much more, and I grew tired of
shooting, processing, scanning and then finally printing. So I too am
waiting for something like the a digital Leica. I know I will end up
with an SLR and it looks like I may be building a Cannon system to
replace the OM stuff I have been selling.
My "interim" digital purchase is a Panasonic LC-1 which I really love.
Don't ask this list about that camera! I did and got any and all
negatives from the on-line reviews. Bottom line....yes it is only 5.2
megapixels, and YES the Leica optics are superb.

I have seriously given thought to buying a G2 and have bid on half a
dozen or so on ebay, but stuff I read about noise and the quirkiness
of manual focus keeps from doing it. Did you just coincidentally buy
this camera around the time you went digital or did it just not
perform as expected? Personally, I have a Canon G2 that I use mostly
as a snapshot camera. For more serious stuff, I'm still waiting for
the digital camera that makes me want to give up using my Leica
M6/IIIc. I could probably find one (Canon 20D) that would make me
give up my Olympus SLRs, but I have a fair amount of macro gear for
those and that is all I really use an SLR for, so the investment to
move to another system would be steep.
