I was left wondering last evening what you used to project digital, and
planned to ask this morning. But this helps a lot to clarify things.

This past Sunday afternoon, several family members and friends (of my adult
children's age group)gathered around my computer screen, wanting to see some
pictures I had taken. Some were scans and some were taken with the C5050. So
in went the CD, and while we waiting for it to load, they were jockeying for
position so they could get a better straight-on view of the screen. One
thing about this kind of viewing, it keeps everyone very close together,
literally. I guess I'm stuck in the past, as I would still prefer everyone
seated in comfortable living room chairs viewing a somewhat larger screen.

I've been asked to put together a slide show for this Christmas season, part
of a church pagent presentation. I hope to put to use a couple of Navitar 7
inch/2.8 projection lenses which I picked up as a pair recently on the
auction site for $6.50 plus shipping. I guess at least I have "digital" to
thank for the bargains.

Besides not being yet able to afford digital projection equipment, I've also
been (like John Lind) totally unimpressed with digital projections I've
seen. Well, maybe not totally unimpressed. I guess if you like to see your
image first appear on the screen as though it were a sheet of paper flipping
over in the wind a couple of times before it settles down, or if you want it
to look like a venetian blind closing - that sort of novelty thing, then
there are advantages. The younger generation especially seem to like that
sort of presentation, and eventually I'll perhaps have go to it, maybe when
it becomes more affordable. Now I can see if one is happy with gathering
around a computer screen viewing images, then digital is definitely the way
to go, just as prints are the way to go if two people want to sit close and
flip through a picture album. But for public viewing and quality of image
on a projection screen, I prefer slides yet.
