Poor man's (relatively speaking here) model of an ideal manual shifter,
IMHO, is the lowly Miata. If you've never driven one, the shifter in that
car is as close to intuitive as I've ever driven. Definition of short
throws.
Don't knock it if you ain't tried it. I know the car's a tight fit for lots
of folks....
