Dunno what happened, but I plugged it into the power again (still connected
USB) and it detected OK.
So now the playing begins.

First look is bad.
Probably something on my PC. The scanner would not install as the usb
device. I tried installing it with add new hardware, and the driver was in
there but it only wanted to install on com1 or lpt1.
So it isn't the scanner but some software thing. I'll contact the suppliers
tomorrow.
