I think your 4 seconds is not necessary, and may even be detrimental.
Actually, I set my snipes a bit more than the default settings. The reason
is, you have to have to bid in increments to meet the ebay settings.
Apparently if two snipes come in at the same time, the highest one wins even
if it is only a cent or two higher. I've won a couple items that way by only
a cent or two, and also lost one by a couple cents. You can see this
situation by looking at the bid history of course. So now I set my snipes
for the maximum time that I think a watcher will not have time to put in a
bid. That way, if another snipe is only a few cents higher than mine, but is
a few seconds later, he can't get in because it doesn't meet the bid
increment. That's also why I set snipes for odd amounts above typical
increments - sometimes you can win by a few cents.
