Well, that's the way it is folks...... To quote from the Sto-Fen site. 
"The only thing that happens with the Omni in place is the Maximum 
Distance of the flash is reduced by a factor of 2.5. For example if your 
Max Distance is 50 feet divided by 2.5 now equals 20 feet with the Omni 
in place."

That's really the only way it can be. If you take the same total amount 
of light and spread  it out over a really much larger area, the average 
brightness of any area drops considerably. Reflectors like their Two-Way 
Bounce and many others, will not soften and cover everything out to 
super super-wide, but may decrease the working distance less. Their site
