The OM4 / 2S self timer doesn't activate the release, it introduces an
obstruction in the release mechanical circuit so the arm from the mirror
mechanism doesn't hit the first curtain release. This is why the mirror and
aperture pre - fire works the way it does.
If the obstruction doesn't get there, the mirror will trip the shutter, so
the controlling solenoid (MG1?) would be the firs port of call. Why the
shutter timing doesn't work from then is a bit of a mystery. Sounds like the
integration only starts when the self - timer stops beeping, ie it's under
control of the computer, not of a switch on the shutter mech.
