Excellent point, C.H. - And to carry it a step further, Olympus is a
world leader in precision optical medical and scientific devices -
microscopes, large scale blood analyzers, and endoscopes of various
types. In the U.S., more than 70 percent of the scopes used for
colonoscopies are Olympus scopes; 90%! of the blood analyzers used by
blood banks are made by Olympus. The point is that it is indeed a well
known, and long-known - they made the first microscope made in Japan in
1920 - name.

And, as C.H. has said, the OM series was such a phenomenon when it was
introduced that any photographer who is 45 or older, or any photographer
who knows anything about equipment and its history, knows Olympus, and
knows that it is known for its innovative designs. Remember, before the
OM, all SLRs were biggggg; the OM is the camera that began the tend
toward lighter, more compact bodies.

As to the question of 35mm equivalency - I believe it was Moose who
raised this issue:

The E-1 is indeed an entirely new camera system, designed from the
ground up, in a new format; these lenses should not be thought of in
terms of 35 equivalents - and I know I've been guilty of doing just that
in posts. But as Moose suggested, we should really be talking about
angles of view. The new lenses do NOT have 35 mm equivalencies marked on
them - the standard zoom is a 14-54 lens. Period. So the E-1 DOES have a
full-frame sensor - that's the point. Full frame for the 4/3 format.

If everyone had reacted to those 'goofy little OM1s - tiny toy cameras
with their tiny toy lenses' - the way you're reacting to the E-1, there
would never have been an OM2, 3 or 4 for you to be using today. :-)

I think you really know very little about Olympus, it is one of the
famous Japanese camera brand from early 60s to late 90s, together with
N*kon, C*anon, M*nolta, P*ntax and Ricoh. Z*iss? even C*ntax DSLR with
new Z*iss lenses already a proof of failure. Every advance armature and
professional SLR users know what Olympus is.
