Especially for portrait work it buys you;
1) a faster shutter speed. This helps because although the flash will freeze
the subject, when shooting at 1/60 sec (especially when using longer focal
lengths...say 135mm) it helps to avoid camera shake. Day time portraits will
see a ghosting effect if you have camera shake... you will see the subject
from the flash but also a blurred image from the part of the film exposed
by the available light.
2) At higher shutter speeds you use a larger apertures... therefore
decreasing DOF, this is especially good for portrait work. I am going to try
a 2 stop and 4 stop neutral density filter to see if this will help me use
larger apertures while keeping the shutter speed down next time I shoot
flash during the day on the OM-4
3) Shooting at 1/60 sec during the day has another draw back where you have
to use smaller apertures which means that you need more flash power to get
that nice fill in flash effect. I have dished the T20 that I had and gone a
T32 now. Just found it didnt have the power that I needed for day time
portraits.
I hope this helps a little for you Albert
Cheers Adam
