Aha Lama, you fell into my trap ;-). The verb agrees with
"corruption" which is singular.
OK, it wasn't a trap, but when I read it through (missing the
misspelling of "programmes"), I had to think carefully before
leaving the construction as it was.
In fact, I watched a bit of "Friends" yesterday (I like Phoebe) and
it is funny. I suppose I ought to blame our education system (not
teachers) for failing to teach our language properly over the last
20-30 years.

Programme is a 19th century affectation (French sounds so stylish) -
that's one the cousins have got right!
How dare you blame teachers? Five periods per week I see my English
class (4 hours) - do you really think that I can compete with the 25
hours of US television they watch each week. No hope. They're
victims of cultural imperialism.
I shouldn't be quite so condemnatory though - some USians speak quite
clearly. That Mr Schwarzenegger for instance...
