[OM] medical treatment of fungus or surgery only?

Subject: [OM] medical treatment of fungus or surgery only?

Hi all,

About two weeks ago I discovered that a nice colony of fungus was quicly
growing on the back border face of the front element of my Zuiko 21/3.5
After I made myself sure I was not having a nightmare, decided to treat the
malady.
Since this had happenned to my 50 G-Zuiko and have it cleaned by an
experienced technician but didn't quite like the results, I am very
reluctant to have this one disassembled and cleaned (surgery).
Instead, I began a "phototherapy" inspired by an idea someone mentioned
here. I am illuminating the lens with a 50 watt dichroic lamp at 10
centimeters from the UV filter during some hours, and then again for several
sessions. The Zuiko gets a little warm, but no more.
I'm afraid this treatment is not as efficient as I wished. The colony
stopped growing and is less white, but didn't disappear.
Since the front element of this lens is quite thick at its border, where the
fungus spot is located, and this border lies on a black supporting structure
- well, does it make sense to have it cleaned? It is a MC lens...

Thanks in advance.

Fernando
