When a customer doesn't want to invest in a "new" prism to replace one with
damage to the silvering, we clean it off as well as we can, then use a small
cloth buffing wheel on a Dremel tool and jeweler's rouge to polish off the
damaged portion of the prism as well as we can to bare glass. Once the top
cover is back on, the bare glass portion of the prism usually appears no
different than the silvered portion -- the only sign of damage is along the
edge of the silvering, which appears like a jagged tear. It's not "good as
new", but it's only marginally distracting and doesn't affect function at all.
