Tim,
  If you are referring to the part called a "Relay Cord", I have
frequently used min in between the M18V grip and my motor drive.  I have
never used it as a remote though.  I just could never see why I
shouldn't have the weight of the M18V on the camera when it fit so well
in my pocket on the end of the relay cord.
