The first (non-MD) OM-1 body that I had had one (rubber). The original
mounting hole had a tendency to short out when it got filled with dirt
etc.; Olympus changed the design a little to preclude the problem, so the
plug was not so necessary later I imagine.

No I bought my OM1 md from new (without a hot shoe) back in the ''70s and I
have no recollection at all of one of these little things
