Have you considered Benbo or Unilock tripods? They are much better
suited to macro photography than any "conventional" tripod types.
I use A Benbo 1 with my 90/2 and 80/4 with great results and would
never consider using a 'normal' tripod.

I compared the specs and the description between the Manfrotto brochure I
have in front of me with the description of the tripod on
