[OM] OM-30 Question

I'm not sure if the two are related, but here's a snippit
from a group related to another passion (telescopes)

<<SNIP>>
This focusing software (FocusMax www.focusmax.org)
works by building what the authors call a V curve
that defines the relationship between focuser position and CCD measurements
of the target star. They call this HDF for Half Flux Diameter. This
metric
appears to be less sensitive to seeing issues than the more familiar FWHM
(Full Width at Half Maximum). Once the curve is known for a given optical
system, only a few images are needed to determine the distance to best
focus. It is really a hoot to watch the program find it's position and
drive straight to critical focus.
<<snip>>

Most of this is over my head. Hope it helps you.

Subject: [OM] OM-30 Question

I posted a question about this before, but never saw it come back in the
digest,
so I assume it got lost. I apologize if it is a repeat.

I was wondering if anyone could explain the auto-focus gizmo in the OM-30.
It
seems clear that it doesn't use SONAR as it works poorly in low light. So
how
does it work?

Has anyone used this feature? How do you like it?

Thanks anyone who can point me at an answer.
