You don't have to choose. First car I ever bought was a '46 Chrysler
which had seen better days, actually seen quite a lot of days, period.
Anyway it had what I think was called a Fluid Drive. This must be the
original "slush box" Sort of a hybrid automatic but it also had a
clutch. Basically you could manually shift with the clutch if you were
feeling sporty or just go automatic which was especially useful if the
right arm was otherwise occupied :>)
