One of the reasons why the RPMs enter turbine range! No lifters
to mess with. An object in motion tends to stay in motion...
Regular pistons go uppy and downy a few zillion times a minute.
None of that raucous motion with a rotary! Free revving to and
beyond redline--ahh! What a sound.

At 500 rpm over redline an RX-7 will just beep at you from a
loud in-dash buzzer. You jump out of your skin the first time
it happens. Even at 9500, redline comes in a hurry through the
first three gears.

My second generation convertable (a bit heavier than the
hardtops, but way better balanced) would break the wheels loose
on dry pavement in second gear during a rolling accelleration
the moment it hit 4500 rpm. It would keep the tires lit for a
few seconds beyond that. (nothing compared to a '67 GTO, but
the GTO couldn't corner either)

It also had speed-sensitive power-steering boost. Didn't matter
how fast or slow you were going, it always had exactly the same
resistance. The only time it would be fooled was during hard
left-hand corners with heavy braking when decelerating through
about 35mph.

Of course, to minimize that problem I rarely took corners less
than 35mph.

AG-now I drive a Jeep-Schnozz
