Watching the Japanese technician (I think it was Mr. Fujimoto) with a
gigantic spanner, staring at the 300/4.5 in a machinists vice, this is when
I learned their equivalent for the American slang "S*xt".  After struggling
for hours, bending or breaking the spanner tips off without being able to
open the lens, he says........."kusoh"........Then they get on the telex
machine to the head office and say "NO MORE GLUE......."

I'm not saying all 300s are glued shut, but some are.  On some lenses, they
got smart and installed a set screw just to prevent the front tube from
unscrewing.  Much better than glue. Some fungus can be cleaned off.
