I second Roger'scomments on the Tamron 35-105/2.8, an excellent lens, sharp, fast, compact and relatively light. If it had close focus, it might be my favorite.

In addition, I have and can recommend:
Tamron SP 80-200/2.8 Fast and sharp, but a handful.
Tokina AT-X 80-200/2.8 Fast, almost as sharp as the Tamron, considerably lighter and a better tripod mount. Tamron SP 60-300/3.8-5.4 5x range (love that 300mm!), sharp and great macro capability down to 1:1.55. Nice bokeh in macro. Tokina AT-X 150-500/5.6 Hey, a sharp, contrasty 500/5.6 that focuses to 8 ft is great, and this adds zoom down to 150mm. Of course it's big and heavy, but takes excellent pics Used with extention tubes, it's a good CF/'macro' lens with amazing reach. Needs a good tripod. Tamron SP 35-210/3.5-4.2 Nice lens and 210/4.2 at the long end vs. the Tokina below at 200/4.5, but the Tokina is smaller and lighter.

These 2 are excellent performers and make a super 2 lens lightweight kit for super wide to tele if you don't need lots of speed. Tokina AT-X 35-200/3.5-4.5. 5.7x range, sharp and CF to 1:4. A terrific one lens solution for many needs. Vivitar Series1 19-35/3.5-4.5 OK, so it's plastic, that also means it's really light. And it's a really good lens.

Kiron 35-105/4 A sharp, beautifully made lens with CF to 1:4, but as heavy and almost as large as the Tokina 35-200.

I also have a Tamron 28-200/3.8-5.6 Aspherical lens. It's a marvel in terms of weight, size and zoom range, but flare prone and just doesn't seem optically in the same class as the above lenses in my so far limited experience with it. Nice bayonet mount matched aux lens for CF.

Do I have too many zooms, especially when you count the Zuikos and a couple of other odds and ends? You bet! And once I figure out which are the best kit for me, some of these need to go on the block.

Tamron SP 35-105 f2.8 Aspherical (model 65A). A fine lens with fixed f2.8
aperture, and reasonably compact - 624g., 67mm filter, 72 x 97mm.
A real challenge to the much more expensive Zuiko 35-80 f2.8.

Angenieux 35-70 f2.8/3 Not a small lens but the results cannot be faulted.

Thanks in advance.
