Last week I used a friend's Sony digital camera shooting
some softball at the International don't-say-"Olympics" Gay
Games (the rest of the week I was taking photos with my own
Canon gear of the Touch Footy...but more of that OT stuff
and examples with the presumption of looking for critique
later ;-) ). Thankfully the camera's lack of reach and
less-than-predictable focussing on moving subjects was
compensated by the predictability of location of the
subject (at bases) and the somewhat casual access permitting
me to get close to 1st and 3rd as well as home.

Anyway, it had the "electronic click" on it too. It was
quite nifty, amusing, and coooooool, duuuuuude, but I'm
sure after a couple of days I'd be turning it off in
annoyance (like the in-focus "beep" of my Canon). I
wouldn't judge anyone harshly for leaving it on though
(hell, they might love the irony).

It reminds me of "The Truth Files" on National Geographic,
when they add this sound effect in, including the "whirrr"
of motorised film advance when putting a photo up on screen,
when I'm sure some of those wonderful photog's work being
shown were using their Leicas with neither SLR mirror-slap
sound used, nor motor drives. Still, wonderful series.

Obligatory OM content: on this "day off" from Touch Footy,
I took the OM1 with 50 1.4 to get some casual photos of the
teams that arise out of the local softball club I'm in.
Alas, at the end of the 36 exposure roll, when I went to
rewind...yep, it "rewound" too easy. I'd made sure initially
that it was winding on at the start (after the helpful
warnings here), but something had obviously happened mid-roll.
I though "bugger it" and opened the back thinking "Well,
it's just this roll destroyed". It appears that winding the
film on, and by the looks of it towards to end, the film
had torn in a long, diagonal tear, out of the canister and
was sitting on the righhand spool [sigh]. I probably had not
noticed some resistance somewhere along the line. Ah well,
thankfully they weren't being taken in any "official" capacity,
like at Touch, and so I just put the camera away and enjoyed
the games (until someone asked me to take the aforementioned
digital photos while they played - people never think that
just because you've got a lot of camera gear, doesn't mean
you're not a crap photographer <g>).

Cheers
