 Ah, right -- to add to the fun, these were self-timer shots, so I didn't
look through the lens to see what was going on.  Just to check I understand,
then, manual is actually "manual, but stop if I'm told to stop by the camera
attached to me"?

 and if I do this, it'll be the same as if I had it with the 'full auto
control' side out? If so, that's very useful for seeing range, yup.
