I assume when you mention TMAX 400 being printed on colour paper that you're
talking about the TMAX 400CN (chromogenic) film that gets developed with
C-41 (colour) chemistry? I personally wasn't too happy with the results I
got with this film (although a lot does come down to the processing and
printing) and I found it difficult to work with in the darkroom (I think the
orange mask may have been reducing the contrast, getting good contrast
killed the tonality). If that's the case, I'd definitely recommend trying
"real" TMAX 400 (TMY). Which is a normal B&W film which I've gotten great
results with. The colour casts you were experiencing on colour paper have
nothing to do with the film itself and just have to do with how your
processor is correcting for the "colour" some printers will give a neutral
look, I found my prints with the film were more cool to cyan. I've seen
others printed with a sepia look that was quite pleasing. It all depends on
how the printing is done.
