It is interesting to see the variation in cost and content of a basic camera and 3 lens kit. Sort of a low budget-high budget comparison for someone just getting started on the cruel road to zuikoholism. My nominations:

Low: OM1N, 28/2.8, 50/3.5, 100/2.8.

High: OM4Ti, 24/2, 35-80/2.8, 135/2.8 Oops, no macro, but a little wider range.

What do you think? Should the basic kit include an additional lens and a flash?

My first setup:
OM-10 with manual adapter, 28/3.5, 50/1.8, 75-150/4, T-20 and Winder 2

Only things left from this are the T-20 and Winder 2. Sans Winder 2 this *was* the touted OM entry level kit circa 1980, very shortly after the OM-10 was introduced.

The body, flash and lenses were intended to be stepping stones to be upgraded over time. This was ultimately achieved, but would not do it that way again. My advice is planning and building a system one piece at a time with the bodies and lenses that are ultimately desired, even if it takes longer to do so. Usually less expensive over the long term. The system can evolve over time, but it typically won't involve as much buying and selling of bodies and lenses.

I bought into the OM system a number of years prior to the OM-PC, which I would consider today for a low-budget kit, if the ultimate plan were to make it a spare or 2nd body later.
