Oh yea... the reason he sells his prints for $7. The other photographer at the track shoots film and sells his 8x10's for $10 each. His plan is to undercut the guy and take all the business at the track because digital is cheaper and better. Good Luck!

Amazing. I might sell a 5x7 for $10 - $12, but not an 8x10 print. That would sell for about $20 - $25. Wonder where the "film" guy is getting his prints made? Wonder what both their business models are? Wonder when, if ever, the acquaintance will hit the break-even point? Will the camera last that long? Is he young enough to expect to live that long?

I very much like your shots better. I get a sense of motion and action (the panning with longer shutter speed) that doesn't exist with the other guy's which freezes wheels, flying dirt and background. I believe you will continue to improve with more experience, but you're already "there" with the basics, and definitely ahead of the other guy in technique.

Only obvious flaw I saw is in the "Winner" shots with glare off of the banner . . . and yours suffered that less with his. Wanted to reach through the monitor and take some steel wool to the banner to get rid of its shiny surface. I know you were using flash for that. It's bouncing the light from the flash straight back at the lens. Try to think of ways to get rid of the glare reflection without creating harsh shadows elsewhere (as with the people).
