Good heavens what a silly question for an exam!
Okay, you can give the Nikon, etc. answer or you can give the answer
that really should appeal to a photography instructor:

Get a cheap TLR (medium format camera, e.g. a used Yashicamat)
or maybe a Crown Graphic
and with the remaining $600-700 buy
boxes and boxes of film, photographic paper, experimental chemistry, etc..

If your instructor doesn't like that answer, get another instructor!
(Okay, say "Nikon" or "digital", if the student is going into photojournalism)

Of course, as a professor, I must add that if this is a real exam, you are
probably cheating.... :-)
