One essentially is using monochromatic light, in the middle of the
visual spectrum, thus eliminating the other wavelengths that excite
aberrations in the image projected onto the film. There is a slight
increase in  sharpness and a slight increase in contrast. It's
interesting to explore and can add a "crispness" to images.
