I bought a lens from a man in Germany about a year ago. Four months after I
received the lens a bill came from the US Customs people for about $20 in
fees. No explanation, just the bill. /jnm

Hi folks,

While discussion about Post Office requirements, and Customs Charges etc
is fresh in our minds, there's another related matter.

Sometimes I would have liked to buy from eBay in Germany. But when I
enquire about the postage cost to New Zealand I find they report, even for
small items, costs that I regard as being out of this world.

For example, something the size of an XA, or a 50mm lens, being posted
airmail from the USA and Canada to New Zealand, would cost me
something about USD 10 - 20. Often closer to USD 10 - 13.

>From Germany, the cost would be about USD 33 equivalent.

I wonder if the German rates are actually as high as they seem; or maybe
it's a reflection of distance.

Brian
