Hi

Done "party pics" loads of times, so here's my 2 pence worth, all based on
painful experience.

First, you need to decide if you will be there as a partygoer who's taking
pictures, or as an observer recording it for posterity. Don't try to do both
or you wont enjoy yourself and wont get good photos.

If you're going to be a "partygoer", there are 3 things you need to bear in
mind...

Firstly, make sure you can comfortably carry your camera et al in your left
hand whilst holding a drink in your right... so not to much gear.

Secondly, find somewhere out of the way and SAFE where you can put your
camera down whilst you talk/eat/dance(?)/go to toilet/etc.etc., where other
drunken partygoers wont be tempted to twiddle the dials and generally play
about.. I lost a whole roll once because someone had wound the shutter speed
up to 500 so all the shots only had the left third exposed.

Thirdly, don't drink too much.. you'll end up taking far too many pictures
of the same 2 or 3 people. Also, if you need to change film make a point of
finding somewhere relatively quiet to do it preferably with a table. even if
you feel confident of changing the film "on the move".

Other than that, Yes I'd agree with everyone else that you don't need asa
800 film unless you're planning to photograph from way way out of the
action.. 400 will be plenty fast enough. Yes for the Bounce Grip, but do you
really need the winder?

Sorry, I lost your original post so I don't remember what lenses you have,
but I only use one lens, a 35-70 zoom which is ideal for this situation. Do
you have something similar? Whatever you have plan to stick with that lens
throughout the party. Unless you're definitely outside of the party lens
changing is just too much bother and wont really buy you anything (and also,
where will you keep your spare lenses? do you really want to lug them about
all night?)

Once it gets dark set your camera to a large aperture with the T32... yes I
know this makes focusing a bit tricky but if you have to small an aperture
the background will be to black and peoples faces too white.

Whew, I didn't intend typing that much, but kind of got carried away. I hope
that helps. The main thing is to enjoy yourself

By the way, what's the occasion?

Sam
