Latest discussion was in early March. Diodes have a forward voltage drop of about 0.2v, which is just right for conversion of 1.55v Silver Oxide to 1.35v. The final word in that thread was:

"Schottky signal diodes are actually quite common. They were pioneered by
Hewlett-Packard, but now many people make them. Digi-Key (www.digikey.com) sells in
small quantities.

There was a olympus-digest discussion some time ago on the relative merits of
germanium and schottky diodes, concluding that germanium (1N34a) was better in the
current range of OM-1 lightmeters. This discussion happened before I joined the
olympus-digest reflector, so I don't know how that conclusion was reached. A
summary would be interesting. - Joe Gwinn"

1N34a diodes used to be available at Radio Shack, 10 for $1.19.

I don't think you want to put a resistor in - the results won't be linear. A diode is needed. Check the archives for the right one. Personally, I'd just get an MR9 adapter (which already has the diode built-in) and use a 357 silver cell, before I started opening up one of my OMs.
