[OM] OM-1 serials was Prism rot

This raised questions in my mind... My OM-1MD only has six (6) digits in the
serial number (313xxx). Is this a sign of exchanged bottom plate? If so, I
remember a discussion some time ago about original serial numbers, and the
conclusion was that it is not possible to find out what it was. True?
