Welcome Keith

Watch out for your wallet; money disappears very fast on this list!

If you want a better teleconverter, the Olympus 2Xa is fine, but cheaper
and more flexible would be a Vivitar 7-element Macro Focussing
Teleconverter (usually around £40-£50 I think). Quality is very good, and
in combination with your 50mm lens you will get a 100mm/f4 macro lens (1:1)
- also good for portraits.

Hello everyone.

I have been lurking on this list for a year or so. I am ashamed to say
I have even posted a question or two without introducing myself. So
here goes:

.........

Another pleasure has been looking for secondhand Oly stuff when
my wife and I go off for our short breaks around the UK. You never
know what you might come across. I have also bought with success
by mail-order within the UK. My kit currently consists of:

OM2n (x2, one black for prints, one chrome for slides)
50/1.8 (x2, one MIJ)
135/3.5
28/2.8
50/3.5 macro
Cheap Velbon tripod (present from wife so must keep it)
Vivitar 2X converter
T32 Autocord T 2m
Various filters

Books:
Shipman (OM1N-OM10 and OM1N-OM10 Quartz. I bought both in the same
shop for 3gbp)
Pangerl
Gaunt
Oly lens group booklet (cost me 2GBP)

Still looking for the Mannheim book. Will find it one day (g).

I am *trying* to keep to the principle "only buy something when you
have established a need for it" but this Oly list makes that a bit
hard sometimes.

Now that my conscience is clear, to the question:

I "need" a 300/4.5 but the light in the UK is usually poor and I
usually hand-hold so I would probably never use it enough to justify
the 250-350gbp expense. I have the Vivitar converter mentioned above
but the picture quality with the 135 has not been marvellous. Is the
Oly 2X sufficiently better to justify 120GBP?

Thanks for reading all this.

Keith
