Michael - did you press the little "re-set" button on the camera front?
Usually works with a lock-up.
My OM2 has been doing this off and on for a couple of years now and this
topic has come up here too in the last 8 months. There have been several
suggestions that may or may not work; use an eraser to clean the battery
contacts; there's apparently (going from memory here so someone else
might comment) a wire near the battery compartment that sometimes has a
solder joint come undone.
In my machine, I think I have narrowed the problem down to mirror lock-up as
the photos being taken at the time are usually oK. Puzzles my repairman
too.
