Subject: [OM] Wide Range Zooms - any good ?

Dear all

I've lurked on this list for a few months, ever since I inherited my
dad's OM gear. My principle subjects are my small children. Being fast
moving little critters, I think I'd find one of the wide range zooms
handy. I was thinking of the Tamron MF 28-200, but I thought I'd see
what those with greater experience have to say.

How do Tamron Lenses compare with Zuiko's ?

Welcome to the list, Steve.

Can't comment on the Tamron, but of the Zuiko zooms I can thoroughly
recommend the 35-105. It's a great lens & the zoom range is good for most
things. Being one touch, it's quick to use, with practice, & has a handy
"macro" setting as well. It's also quite compact, so you won't mind lugging
it about. I picked mine up locally for GBP125.00, not cheap, but I've never
seen another one. Worth waiting for. Another good Zuiko is the 75-150,
which you can get for around GBP60.00. This is a 2 touch design, but is of
reasonable quality, & is good for candid shots of children as you can keep a
good distance but zoom in & capture those cute expressions! More bulky than
the 35-105, but cheaper & easier to find. If you have any Zuiko prime
lenses, I should keep them, they are of excellent quality. You will have
gathered the aim of most list members is to aquire as much Olympus gear as
possible, often regardless of need!

>>Please assume that beyond the basics my ignorance is total and my talent
zero.

To Remedy:
1. Keep reading the list.
2. Keep taking pictures!
