APS is a really neat system and it doesn't deserve to die or be trashed by
"serious 35mm photographers". It has many advantages and not only for
amateurs who can't load their 35mm P&S.

- the reduction of film size is well-balanced; not too much so that print
quality suffers but big enough to allow a dramatic reduction in camera size.
Ever seen the Canon ixus, or compared the Olympus Centurion to the Olympus
iS-300? Besides when the APS system was introduced new film emulsions were
released to reduce grain.

- the drop-in film loading is completely fool proof; you can do it
blindfolded.

- Mid Roll Change lets you carry one camera and mix color neg, slow and
fast, slide and b&w film. Ok, there's a problem that there's only one fast
APS film, one slide film and one B&W film, and they're not easy to find. And
no professional film either.

- the option to change from classic format to panorama to hdtv format on one
roll is nice and much more comfortable as being forced to print an entire
roll in panorama.

- no more finger prints on negatives; ordering extra prints is very easy.

- electronic registration of data, time and camera settings.

- the index print and improved film emulsions also helped 35mm film.

- film scanning with an APS module is very comfortable; you can scan the
entire roll in one batch.

hnz (still happy with his Centurion S)
