Tom, as you know I joined the scanner list just recently--thanks to your effort--so I missed the film-roll issue. Did Polaroid offer any rationale for this decision?

Tris

There's not a huge difference in the results. The Polaroid may bring out
the shadows marginally better, but it is small. The Nikon is much more
sensitive to focus issues than the Polaroid, and bowed film can have focus
problems -- that's more anecdote than experience, as my results have been
good.

The big difference is in overall useability. I have the roll film adapter
for the Nikon. I can stick in one end of the film strip, walk away and come
back to 36 scanned pictures. It's a lot more work with the Polaroid. If
Polaroid had ever introduced the rumored roll film adapter, I never would
have switched -- now they have finally said they never will.

So, the SS4000 is the right buy, as it is SO much cheaper.

Tom
