Well, perhaps negative isn't the right word.
The problem, however, is that the 1.5 volt "alkaline adjustment" doesn't
really solve the problem of correct metering. The voltage (during discharge)
curve of the alkalines is such that the meter will be somehwat off for most
of the life of the battery (the curve is "s" shaped). Using the converter to
allow use of the 1.5V silver batteries works far better, since the silver's
voltage curve is flat until almost the end of battery life.
