As a native of Louisiana, I'll say that y'all (that's "you guys" for the rest
of the U.S.) can pronounce it anyway you like, but the CORRECT pronunciation
(and spelling) is with the W (and no, we DON'T care what the dictionary says).
I also might as well tell you that we laugh behind your backs at how you
mis-pronounce
pecan. I'm not allowed to tell you the other words we secretly laugh about.
 ;-)

While we're at it, let's get this fish business straightened out. As I
privately
wrote a list member, I've never knowingly eaten crappie in my life. The eating
fish of the South is CATFISH, by damn. There's a catfish restaurant on every
other corner. I talked to a few fishermen at the office plus checked a few
things on the internet. Seems like this is all more confusing than the
SC/MC/SilverNosed/FloatingElement/MDBadge
permuations (which of course MATTER to all of us). In South Louisiana, that
fish is called the sac-a-lait. Up here in North Louisiana, people call it white
perch. In other parts of country, white perch is an entirely different fish
(and this time I believe the rest of the country is right). Some parts of the
country apparently call them specs. Confusing as hell. As for me, I'll stick
with my Zuikos (and catfish), thank you very much.
