Chris,

If you will search through the archives, you will find a multitude of threads on these very topics.

As a summary, the OM 1 does have some camera shake, probably from the mirror, but even a little bit with the mirror up. You can use the Olympus recommended method of dampening the camera by keeping your hand pressed against the top of the body (while it is on the tripod) as you are taking the photo.

Probably the most recommended tripod line on this list is the Manfrotto. You might try hanging a cloth bag under the tripod that you fill with rocks, sand, etc. if you feel you need more mass to prevent camera shake. Then, as you get older :-) you can put in less mass. Finally, when you get old and wise you can carry the empty bag and put material in it at the top of the mountain! You have already begun to show wisdom btw, because you plan on using a tripod.

I've noticed a bit of camera shake with the OM-1, but not too much, with a steady hand, you don't need a tripod with speeds of 1/30. With my digital, I usually lean up against something, tilt the camera and hold it with two hands to keep it really steady, then take the picture. This is somewhat harder with the OM-1. I have a couple tiny tripods, which are pretty useless, so I'm going to have to invest in a good solid tripod.

I want something really heavy. I've used Manfrotto tripods before, and would like something a bit heavier. I have no problem lugging heavy equipment up a mountain, or across a river; I'm still young. Any suggestions on a heavy tripod? (that doesn't cost its weight in gold either)
