Without a memory card about the only thing that will work is the manual
zoom.

| Without the familiarity of the camera and the memory card, I'm sure I
missed
| a lot. It was powered on with fresh batteries and the lcd screen was
working
| nicely. I assumed that autofocus would be engaged when the flip switch on
the
| left points to AF and the shutter release is pressed slightly. Nothing
| happened with the shutter release. I then figured that it was disabled
| because the card was missing.
|
| I don't think the aperture was shut to f/11 because the viewfinder wasn't
| THAT dim. But it's all new to me, so I can only give my gut feeling. The
| viewfinder was usable, but smaller than I expected, and with the eclipsing
| problem I was disappointed. I'll surely look again in a shop with
| knowledgeable people if I get the chance. All things considered, it may
have
| been mistreated, OR the problem with this camera may have been standing
| behind it. ;-)
|
| Thanks to your postings, I KNOW the camera is very capable in the right
| hands. So, I haven't made any final judgement, just observations. Thanks
for
| responding!
