I have a linear polarizer that I may need to use with OM-2S or OM-4T.
If I make sure only to use it in manual mode, I should be OK, right?

Joel,

That is exactly what you should NOT do. The linear polarizer fools the
photocells in the mirror box when the light passes through the
semi-silvered mirror. This happens when you take a meter reading with
an OM-2S or OM-4T. It does not fool the photocells, though, when the
mirror is raised, i.e. when taking the picture in auto or program mode.
So, if you're going to use your linear polarizer at all, you should use
either auto or program mode.

It is true to say, however, that you can get a false reading with ANY
type of polarizer when it is rotated to reduce glare from polarized
light, such as reflections from water. You really can't win unless you
use a CIRCULAR polarizer in MANUAL mode. This lets you take your
reading at with the polarizer at maximum brightness, set the
shutter/aperture combination accordingly, then finally rotate the
polarizer until you get the effect you want and take the shot.

Regards,

=====
