Well, that's how, and that's one of the big advantages of an SLR - you can
actually see the effect and predict the result. When using a polarizer, be aware
that the effect depends on the angle of the sun. The effect is strongest when
you shoot with the sun sideways. Just look in different directions while turning
the filter to see the difference.
