OK here it is - Gravity forces are produced by gravitational fields,
such as the Earth's, which is 1G. Forces indistinguishable from gravity
are generated by acceleration or deceleration. When you accelerated the
camera toward the desk top you generated a G force acting opposite the
direction of acceleration, that is toward your hand. This was rather
gradual and not large. However, when the camera suddenly deccelerated
from several meters per second to 0 in a matter of milliseconds (or
less) a much larger, and briefer G force was produced, directed toward
the desk.

Like they say, it's not speed that kills, it's the sudden stop.
