If I need something special I have a pro lab in Victoria that I finally found who understand what I want. Yes it is more expensive BUT the results are unbelievable compared to either Costco or even the my "buddy" the 1 hour processor especially the enlargements. There is just no comparison between a machine print 8X10 and a custom 8X10 (at about 21/2 - 3 times the price though) especially if you have a neg that has all the info but needs the hand treatment.

My observation also with a pro lab I use in Indianapolis for the "special" work. They do 8x10 and 8x12 for me . . . and it's where all the film and proofs were done for the November wedding. There's a world of difference even in the machine print quality between them and the 1-hour labs in my small home town. Custom large prints are, like you, about 3X of a machine print . . . and are reserved for when something needs "extra" work . . . but wow the results. It was after having them do some work a number of years ago that I realized how good the OM system and some of the Zuiko's really are.
