What I find works better (and is safer) is to use a suitable size rubber
stopper to tighten the ring.  As long as the stopper and ring are clean,
you won't get any scratches on the ring.  Micro Tools (Fargo) sells all
sorts of rubber stoppers which can be trimmed to fit almost any lens.
