     Simon Evans:
                            Simon,
Thanks for your thoughts regarding Om3 - 3ti. Basically I
had decided that an Om3 gave me no real advantage over an Olympus Om1n. On
the other hand a 3ti would be magic.....if only I could afford it. I think
your option 4 .....at the prices suggested by Tom Scales -- thanks Tom---
would be the way to go.
I have had one very good experience with a camera sale from the
U.S.
   A mint - Om4t champagne body for $690 (£475) including postage. This
might seem high by American prices but I have seen cameras in this condition
fetch £600 in the U.K.
Two problems with U.S. sales...If you send cheque, money
order, etc the British postal service - even on registered, recorded service
will only track and guarantee the post as far as place of departure - then
they say their responsibility ends! I am not sure if this also happens with
a camera posted from the states? Also the camera escaped customs +vat
shhhhhh! It would NOT have been such a good deal if the thought police
had taxed it.
Also other than buying from a trusted scource major hassles
could occur if the camera was not as described.
None of these problems are insurmountable but they give food for
thought.
                                  Regards,
                                              John Duggan. Wales. U.K.

Considerably more than they're worth IMHO. Secondhand OM3s have always
carried chronically inflated prices relative to the OM4 - up to 50% more.
Since it is equally likely to suffer the battery drain fault there is no
advantage in having the manual model, except perhaps to polar explorers and
Canadians (for reliability in extreme cold). No TTL flash or self-timer was
enough to make me give up thinking of the OM3 as my dream OM, though there
is an irrational corner of my mind that prefers the idea of a mechanical
shutter. Secondhand OM3Tis are as rare as hens' teeth or rocking-horse sh*t
and probably priced accordingly. John, if you are serious about hunting down
a specific piece of kit I suggest you do one or all of the following:

1. Watch MXV (www.mxv.co.uk) and Ffordes (www.ffordes.co.uk) like a hawk.
Ffordes claim to update their website daily. Turnover is very fast for
desirable items. You could even contact them with a WTB email.
2. Go to http://www.lcegroup.co.uk and fill in the form asking them to
locate whatever you're after. They can move it to the branch nearest you. I
believe Jessop's will do the same.
3. Buy AP the day it is published, and chase any items immediately. I rang
around for a few attractively-priced OM items a few weeks ago on the Friday;
all were sold. Loot and local/regional buy'n'sell papers might be worth
looking at.
4. Purchase one from a list member in the USA.

Do any other UK list members have favoured sources of OM gear that I haven't
mentioned? I know Wildings have branches around Manchester, Lancashire and
Cheshire, that may be nearer the wrong end of the Principality for John.

As for prices, here goes:
OM3 around £350-450 (Ffordes had one in exc+ for £400 ($600) in AP Dec 9th
issue. For comparison they also had a black OM4Ti for £400 and OM4 for £225,
both exc+. LCE have an OM4Ti for £550 ($820?) and an OM4 for £300.
JC Photographic have two OM2sps. They want £259 for the mint- and £225 for
the exc++. They also have some overpriced OM lens hoods & filters. Ouch!
OM2sps can be had for £150-190. However, my vote for overpricing goes to
Foto Frenzy of North London advertising in the same issue, who only appear
to use two grades:
   85 f2 mint £350 ($525)
OM4Ti boxed, exc £699 (yes, seven hundred smackers ($1050) and it's not
even mint!)
   35-70 f3.6 exc £249 ($370)
   35-105 mint £269 ($400)
All prices in brackets are US Dollars at 1.5USD per UK Pound.

Re: Nikon FM2n, Robert White will sell you a new one for £375. If only the
OM1n was available new at a that kind of price <sigh>.
