Jane Brown: Does she shoot motor sport?, wildlife, mountaineering, macro,
landscapes?

Gordon Stainforth: Could he carry much more up a mountain ;-)
Does he do motorsports, macro...?

Chris Bonnington: Does he do motor sports up mountains, wildlife up
mountains...?

These people use the gear they need to, don't they? Their fields of
endeavour are fairly specialised, aren't they?

This list currently has about 570 subscribers (list + digest).

Do we all just shoot portraits?

If we did, then we could all do a Jane Brown and have just one lens, one
film we always use... Like the Monty Python skit, we might as well all
be named Bruce.

I think it is a mistake for amateur photographers to carefully note what
gear pro photographers use and draw too many conclusions from such
observations because most pro photographers are fairly specialised.

I would venture that the majority of the subscribers to this list are not
pro photographers with just one narrow field of interest. Many of us
probably like to dabble a bit with differnt forms of photography.

As a whole, the combined interests of this group probably span most of
what you can do with a camera.

What is wrong, or surprising, if a wide variety of gear is discussed and
commented on?

I think it is quite natural and appropriate, given the varied interests of
the group.
