Gary,

So we all do - except on a few occasions like

- in darkness
- with fast moving objects for which you want to preset a distance
- remotely controlled or time delayed camera use, also asking for a
  preset distance

Did I hear somone talking about bat photography? He'll know what I
mean, meeting all three conditions mentioned above at the same time...
